Laser Therapy
What is it?
Strathmore Vet has a class IV therapeutic laser. It directs light at a specific wavelength into the tissue. This helps promote healing and reduce inflammation.
What will happen at my appointment?
The laser probe is placed directly against the skin over the area being treated and held there for a prescribed length of time, the laser may be moved around over different areas during the treatment, this can take up to 30 minutes
Why is it helpful?
Laser therapy is non painful and non invasive, most patients enjoy their treatments. It can help enhance treatment as part of a multi-modal approach. It is especially useful where acupuncture is not appropriate, either where an animal objects to the needles or there are other reasons that they can't be used, recent surgery or swelling for example.
How does it work?
Laser therapy can increase blood flow to tissues, this helps promote healing.
It can also provide energy to cells in damaged tissue, again promoting healing.
Laser therapy also helps reduce pain signals from the damaged tissues to the central nervous system, providing an analgesic effect.
