Referral only
Strathmore Vet offers a referral only service to clients in Tayside and the surrounding areas. This means you must be referred by your primary care veterinary surgeon.
This allows your vet to be kept up to date with the treatment and progress of your pet and any recommendations that have been made regarding lifestyle or medication changes.
Why must my vet refer my pet?
This ensures the continuity of care for your pet. Your vet will receive a detailed report following the initial consultation and they will be kept up to date with any changes to the treatment plan. In order to decide on the best treatment for your pet, it is important to have access to your pet’s medical history and any test results. Your vet needs your permission to send these to Strathmore Vet, so it is important that you discuss the referral with them.
Where will the appointment be?
Appointments can be arranged either at your home or yard (for equine visits) or sometimes in your normal vet's practice.
For home visits a call out fee will apply.
What to expect from an appointment?
Initial assessment:
- Full pain assessment, looking for changes in mobility, gait, appetite and behaviour
- Review past and current medications or treatments
- Physical exam/gait assessment where appropriate
- Individual plan tailored to your pet which will be shared with you and your vet
- Pain scoring/Quality of life scoring
- Referral to other specialists if appropriate
- Acupuncture and Laser therapies if appropriate
Follow up appointments:
- Review of progress and reassessment of pain
- Review pain scoring and QoL scoring
- Review of medications/treatments
- Acupuncture treatment if appropriate
- Report of ongoing findings for yourself and your vet.
