Strathmore Vet has a class IV therapeutic laser. It directs light energy at a specific wavelength into the tissue. This helps promote healing and reduce inflammation.
The laser probe is placed directly against the skin over the area being treated and held there for a prescribed length of time, the laser may be moved around over different areas during the treatment, this can take up to 30 minutes
Laser therapy is non painful and non invasive, most patients enjoy their treatments. It can help enhance treatment as part of a multi-modal approach. It is especially useful where acupuncture is not appropriate, either where an animal objects to the needles or there are other reasons that they can't be used, recent surgery or swelling for example.
Laser therapy can increase blood flow to tissues, this helps promote healing.
It also provides energy to cells in damaged tissue, again promoting healing.
Laser therapy also helps reduce pain signals from the damaged tissues to the central nervous system, providing an analgesic effect.
Osteoarthritis
Muscle spasms
Myofacial trigger points
Ligament and tendon injuries
Wound and fracture healing
Feline cystitis
Disc disease
Skin conditions such as ear disease or anal gland issues.

PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) therapy uses low-frequency electromagnetic waves to stimulate cellular repair and reduce inflammation. It is a safe, non-invasive treatment commonly used in animals to manage arthritis, help heal fractures, and relieve post-operative pain.
The electromagnetic fields are generated by coils in pads. They can be placed under a pet lying in their bed or laid over the area to be treated – for instance the saddle area in horses. There are also pads designed to go around joints or are incorporated into jackets.
Animals can be receiving PEMF treatment while also being treated with the class iv laser and acupuncture.
Osteoarthritis and joint pain
- Helps relieve chronic stiffness and improves mobility
- Helps to modulate pain signaling in the nervous system
- Improves blood flow in tissues
Fracture Repair
- Helps promote bone healing by promoting calcification at the healing fracture site
- Increases production of bone cells
- Conserves balance of cartilage
Wound healing
- Increased blood flow in tissues
- Improves tissue pliability
- Recruitment of tissue healing cells to the area
Spinal Issues
- Reduces inflammation
- Modulates pain signaling
Anxiety and stress
- Calms nervous system and helps relaxation
It is a non-invasive relaxing treatment, most patients really enjoy their treatment and feel very relaxed afterwards. It helps to promote healing and is used as part of a multi-modal approach to your animal's care.
